Dubai, a sparkling oasis now dried up and broken? Maybe we could get a chance to see a city that came through the war more intact and is now flourishing as a trade center. Maybe Beijing? China has always played a big role in Fallout, and we could see some remnant of their prewar government holed up in the Forbidden City, or something. Frankly, I'd rather see this game outside of the United States, in some kind of city that couldn't be mistaken for any place that Fallout has gone before. That's the key thing about apocalyptic fiction: it recasts things we're familiar with in an empty, ghostly light. Boston just feels too close to Washington D.C, and I'm having a hard time thinking about what's actually going to make it distinctive outside of the Fallout lore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, however, for something with a little bit more pop. But if I were a betting man - and I'm not, really - I'd put my money on Boston for an E3 announcement.
#FALLOUT 4 HALF LIFE 3 FULL#
Nothing, including the existence of Fallout 4 at all, is close to confirmed, so this should be taken with a full on-shaker of salt. All early signs point to Boston - not only is Boston prominent in the overall Fallout Mythology, but developers have been spotted in the Cambridge area, and leaked audition and development documents also seem to be pointing in that direction. It all inevitably leads to some speculation on where the game will take place: any open world game lives and dies by its setting, and both Fallout 3, in Washington DC and Fallout: New Vegas got a lot of mileage out of their respective locales. If Bethesda doesn't announce Fallout 4 at this press conference, it will be starting to edge dangerously close to Last Guardian/ Half Life 3 territory.

Bethesda's got some other properties to play with at the conference - Dishonored, I would bet, but we all know what the crown jewel in this operation is. It's been four years since Skyrim, five since Fallout: New Vegas, and Bethesda has almost definitely had its hands on a next-gen system for long enough to get this thing together. Bethesda recently announced its first-ever E3 press conference a while back, and it just feels a whole lot like Fallout 4.

This time, I think, it might actually be for real. There's been a false trademark filing, a hoax teaser website, an odd tweet from a voice actor and much, much more.
